Are hydraulic disc brakes worth it on an eBike?
They often provide lower lever effort and compensate for pad wear, which can be useful on a heavier bike or long descents. Tyres, rotor size, pads, setup and rider technique still determine overall stopping performance.
What is the difference between hydraulic and mechanical disc brakes?
Hydraulic brakes use sealed fluid for more power and a lighter lever feel, and they self-adjust. Mechanical (cable) discs are cheaper and easier to fix roadside, but pull harder and need regular adjustment.
Do hydraulic brakes need much maintenance?
Routine adjustment is usually limited, but pads and rotors still wear and the system may need bleeding if the lever feels spongy or at the manufacturer’s stated interval. Follow the brake maker’s service guidance.
